by Janice L. Freytag
I watch the sparrows
so many this year
play in the lady’s thumb weeds,
flitting up to land
on the pink florets, riding
gravity down to the lawn,
doing it again and again
little children
I do not wish they would do more
than what they do,
enjoy lady’s thumb
as I enjoy them, as angels
enjoy me, as all
our telescoping obscurities
ride the weeds from heaven
back to earth again
and again
